Privacy Policy: GPX Track Editor
GPX Track Editor - Privacy Policy
Last Updated: November 17, 2025
Summary: This extension does NOT collect, transmit, or share any personal data. All GPX files and tracks stay on your device.
Data Collection
GPX Track Editor does NOT collect, transmit, or share any personal data with external servers or third parties. All GPX files and track data are processed and stored locally in your browser's storage.
Data Storage
The following data is stored locally in your browser:
- GPX track files you open or create
- Track points (GPS coordinates, elevation, timestamps)
- Track names and metadata
- User interface preferences (panel visibility, selected track)
Important: No data leaves your device. Everything is stored in Chrome's local storage only.
Data Usage
The extension processes GPX files entirely within your browser. It:
- Parses GPX files you choose to open
- Displays tracks on an interactive map
- Allows you to edit track points and save modified GPX files
- Persists your tracks locally so they remain after page refresh
All processing happens locally. No GPS data, tracks, or files are ever uploaded to any server.
Third Parties
We do not share data with any third parties. No analytics, no tracking, no external services.
The extension loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap for display purposes only. OpenStreetMap may log tile requests (standard for map services), but no personal data or GPS track information is sent.
Data Control
You have full control over your data:
- Delete individual tracks anytime through the track list
- Clear all data by uninstalling the extension
- Export tracks as GPX files to your computer
- Import only the GPX files you choose to open
Permissions Explanation
1. Storage Permission
Required to save your GPS tracks locally in the browser so they persist across sessions. All data stays on your device. Used to remember:
- Your track data
- UI preferences (which panels are open)
- Selected track state
2. Host Permission (tile.openstreetmap.org)
Required to load map tiles from OpenStreetMap for displaying the interactive map. This is standard for any mapping application. Only map imagery is loaded - no personal data is sent.
Remote Code
This extension does NOT use remote code. All code is bundled with the extension and reviewed by Chrome Web Store. No external scripts are loaded or executed (except map tiles from OpenStreetMap, which are images, not code).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
